Unique historical Villa in Cannes

The first historical traces of the sumptuous Edge Road Villa date back the 2nd half of the 19th century (1870), when this area was owned by the British aristocracy. Villa Hollandia, the famous historic mansion situated in the heart of Cannes, was designed to the request of Francesco III Grand Duke of Melcklembourg-Schwerin, who sought peace in this beautiful area, later named „Côte d’Azur” by the writer Stephen Liegeard. The second owner of the villa was Bettina de Rothschild, widow of James de Rothschild, who decided to settle in the French Riviera and bought the property. This particular branch of the family was most powerful since the Baron de Rothschild was successively banker of Louis XVIII, Charles X and Louis-Philippe. The superb mansion would soon become home of many festivities of the aristocracy, where many important personalities of the time would meet. In 1887, the Rothschilds decided to settle into an even more impressive villa (Villa Maria Theresa) and, at the beginning of the 20th century, Villa Hollandia was repeatedly sold to different owners which fortunately decided to leave it almost untouched, to remind us of its former glory. In 1920, the superb mansion became the property of the D´Arcy Hilles family from Baltimore and during the Second World War it was requisitioned and successively used by the German and the American armies. In the 1990s it was bought by a family from Lyon and then was completely renovated by a citizen of Cannes. With its around 700 sqm, the property is situated in the heart of a park of about 5,616 sqm with a swimming pool. The beautiful three level villa consists of spacious living rooms, a dining room, a fully fitted kitchen, seven bedrooms with dressing rooms and bathrooms, terraces and sea views.
